Privacy Policy
Caliche is an offline-first well-finder for iOS and Android. It includes optional Caliche Pro purchases, crew sharing, and server sync for tracks, notes, photos, and well reports. We do not require an account or login.
Information on your device
- Location. With your permission, Caliche uses GPS and compass data to show your position on the map and your distance and direction to a selected well, record routes you choose to record, and prepare user-submitted well-location corrections, which may start from the device's current GPS fix. Live map and compass readings are processed on your device. Saved tracks and submitted corrections send the locations you choose to submit to our server. You can deny or revoke location permission in device settings.
- Local app data. Downloaded county packs, saved and recent well details, language, and map preferences stay in app storage. Remove a county in the app to delete that pack, or uninstall Caliche to remove its local app data. Uninstalling does not delete data already synced to our server.
- Search. Well searches run against downloaded county files on your device. Caliche does not receive your search terms.
Network and service data
When you view or download county packs, your device requests files from our pack host. The host and its infrastructure receive connection information such as IP address, request time, and requested file to deliver files and protect the service. County packs contain public well records and map data, not your saved searches or live location. Caliche does not use these requests for advertising or analytics.
- Device identity and crews. A random per-install device ID associates your content and crew membership with your installation. Crews use a six-character joining code and device IDs, without names, email addresses, phone numbers, accounts, or passwords. Treat crew codes as private: someone with a code can join the crew. The device ID is not an account recovery method.
- Tracks and notes. Tracks you save sync to our server with recorded GPS points, timestamps, accuracy values, and the selected well ID. Notes contain the text, tags, gate codes, and optional photo you submit, attached to a well. A note does not require your live GPS location.
- Visibility. Tracks, notes, and attached photos sync according to your selected visibility: Private or Crew. Private content is stored on our server and accessible to its owning installation. Crew content is accessible to crew members. Consider visibility before submitting gate codes or other sensitive information. You can report a crew note to support@getcaliche.app.
- Photos. Optional note photos are uploaded to private object storage and made available according to the note's visibility. Our server strips JPEG metadata, including EXIF, GPS, and XMP, before storage. PNG and WebP metadata is not stripped and can include location or other personal information. Remove sensitive metadata from PNG or WebP files before uploading. Metadata removal does not remove information visible in the image itself.
- Well reports. Well-location corrections and other reports sync to our server for review. A correction may include coordinates starting from your device's current GPS fix, your description, the well ID, and your device ID. Reports go to the service team for review.
Purchases and third parties
Caliche includes the RevenueCat SDK and offers optional Caliche Pro monthly or annual subscriptions and a non-renewing 24-hour pass through Apple App Store or Google Play. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the subscription period. Manage or cancel a subscription in your App Store or Google Play account settings. The store displays the price and period before purchase and processes payment; Caliche does not receive your full payment-card number.
RevenueCat processes its anonymous app-user ID, purchase history, product and transaction details, subscription status, and technical device information to validate purchases, restore access, manage entitlements, and provide purchase reporting. Our server receives purchase entitlement events and keeps the identifiers needed to associate access with your installation. See the RevenueCat Privacy Policy and the privacy terms of Apple or Google.
When you choose to open a selected well in Apple Maps, Google Maps, or another navigation app, Caliche passes the selected well's destination coordinates to that app. The other app processes information under its own privacy policy. Caliche itself does not calculate a road route.
Analytics, diagnostics, and advertising
Caliche has no analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, or performance-monitoring SDK and does not collect app usage analytics or crash reports. We do not sell personal data or use it for tracking across other companies' apps and websites. Hosting and operating-system providers process technical connection or system data to provide their services under their own policies.
Retention and deletion
Data stored only on your device remains there until you delete it from the app, clear app storage, or uninstall the app. The county-pack host retains operational request records under its retention settings.
You can delete your own tracks and notes in the app. Deleting a note also deletes its attached photo from our storage. Synced tracks, notes, and photos remain until deleted. Deletion from our service cannot remove copies that other people already saved or shared. Uninstalling the app alone does not delete synced content and can remove the device identity needed to manage it.
Well reports are kept for up to one year. Temporary rate-limit records expire; RevenueCat webhook event IDs are kept for 90 days. Crew/device associations, purchase entitlements, and transfer records remain as needed to operate the service and are subject to deletion requests. Apple, Google, and RevenueCat retain their own records under their policies and applicable requirements.
Email support@getcaliche.app to request deletion of other server data or ask a privacy question. Because Caliche has no user account, include enough information to locate your records, such as a content ID or your installation's device ID. Do not email payment-card details or sensitive location history. Deleting app data does not cancel a subscription; cancel it separately in your store account settings.
Security and sharing
Production backend connections use HTTPS. Uploaded photos are held in private object storage, with access controlled by the associated note's visibility. No internet service can be guaranteed completely secure. Crew-shared content can be copied by people who can access it. Local app data is protected by the device's normal storage and security controls.
Children
Caliche is designed for working adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Data sources and safety
- Well records: state agencies, including the Texas Railroad Commission, and other public data sources. Caliche is not affiliated with or endorsed by these agencies.
- Map data: © OpenStreetMap contributors, Open Database License, via Protomaps.
- Aerial imagery: USDA NAIP via USGS (public domain). See the USGS NAIP archive.
Well records, locations, maps, and imagery can be incomplete, outdated, duplicated, or inaccurate. Caliche provides them for informational purposes only. Verify every location and access route before travel; do not rely on Caliche for emergency use, property access rights, or operational safety decisions. GPS reception and third-party navigation can also be inaccurate or unavailable.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy when the app or its data practices change. The effective date appears at the top of this page. Contact: support@getcaliche.app.
